12.08.09 - (PRESS RELEASE) Today, the
Senate voted 54 to 45 to table an anti-abortion amendment in a historic vote on
healthcare reform. The amendment, offered by Senators Ben Nelson (D-NE), Orrin
Hatch (R-UT) and others, would have prohibited individuals receiving federal
subsidies from buying private insurance plans that cover abortion and, would in
effect ban the public option from covering abortion services altogether. In
addition, the amendment would have allowed plan administrators and those running
the insurance exchanges to actively discriminate against insurance plans that
offer abortion coverage. Nancy Northup, president of the Center for Reproductive
Rights, issued this statement in response:

Rights applauds the Senate for rejecting an attempt to seriously undermine

No java at the 'Cuse
Last night at this precise time (8:19 pm eastern) I was behind the wheel of the ol white Accord barreling through a vigorous snow shower on Interstate 81 probably somewhere south of Scranton, PA. What a place to be. I miss it so already. See the reason i was busting through the nothingness of Pennsyltucky was that me and la Sooze and Little Kev were returning from a whirlwind college visit tour. This was our second such event, the first a trip to Bahston in October to see Boston University, which Kev loved, and then Emerson College, which Kev said was a collection of smart nerds dressed in fag clothing. Emerson quickly plummeted to the bottom of his college list even though it is in Bahston where Kev ultimately wants to go. Why, I don't know. I assume it's because Sean is up there and so he has a blood connection, and also because Kev has gone up there a couple of times and hung out and apparently liked the place, even though it is freezing cold and snowy...
